This Year’s Nine

So many questions from the last short post. Here, I will answer as best I can in the ways that make sense to me.

What does Cyclical being mean?

There are so many beliefs and systems to find that speak to us.

I encourage you to look for them.

For me, the fundamental level of cycles is the soil from which my personal spirituality sprouts. Here at the most elemental levels of life-ing, we begin to get a feel for the rhythms that we might not consciously recognize, yet is something we understand. We have a birthday once a year. School starts in fall, lets out in the summer. The calendar and the natural world (if we pick a universal start date) begin the year with winter, moves through spring, summer, fall to end in winter again.

Cycles.

Let’s narrow the scope; we see the moon. She phases from New to Full and back again. Some look at that as distilling the yearly cycle down to monthly. And even still, the sun rises, sets. This clarifies that cycle into just 24 hours. Within a day, the sun starts on one side of the sky and tracks to the other. Once upon a time this was the pattern that clocked each hour.

Cycles.

For me, when the natural world shows me that which cannot be dis-proven I accept it as a universal truth. Amongst the many the universal truths within these cycles, an important one for me is that fighting against cycling is futile.

Again, Fighting against cycling is futile.

Bring that into the perspective of your own lens. Your own body even. A woman has a monthly menstrual cycle. Each of us have days where we overflow with energy, days where we want to stay in bed. Maybe even chunks of time therein. I see this through a lens that, perhaps, society isn’t prepared to normalize. That if the very earth around us cycles, why wouldn’t we? If a single day offers us both light and dark, why wouldn’t we?

Keeping that in mind let’s look at the year of Nine and try to unpack that flood of questions. So consider this, that arguably, the biggest cyclical pattern man has is numbers. We could dive into the foundation and explanations conceptualizing numerology but I could do ten posts picking that apart for us. Suffice it to say that there is a theory out there, that I definitely encourage you to look into if you feel called, that suggests there is a numerical cycle to life as well. With minimal investigation you can find a life path number for yourself, a soul number, an expression number, even a house number. Each number of course has different expressions and can, not unlike astrology, offer insights into your personal experience. On a broader scale, we have universal numbers scaled for the collective, like month, day and year.

A simple concept in numerology is that numbers are broken down into their single digit base. For example if we have a 12 it becomes a 3 because 1 + 2 = 3. We might break down the numbers for our birthday, our birth year. We might correspond numbers to the letters of our name and break those down accordingly. Keep in mind that there are different formulas for each numerical pattern that we seek. The numbers used (speaking generally here as there are exceptions) are one through nine. At ten, because, remember the numbers break down to single digits, we go back to 1 again as 10 is a 1 + 0 = 1.

So we begin to understand a numerical cycle of 9.

With that glossing over of a gargantuan concept (forgive me), we can get down to the business of a nine year.

Taking in the soul understanding that we’re cycling and that this is a nine, we enter into conceptualizing the essence of our lives within a cyclical framework. It comes with understanding that what is – is not forever.

Is that devastating or liberating?

Here, is the innate recognition that as a nine year begins, it too, is the sacred closing of the cycle of nine. So we begin here at the end. And at the end, we can look back over the major arcs for the last almost decade and see what work we have done and what yet needs tending, as we make our way through.

In the new dark (I reference the monthly moon cycle here and see through the lens of a year) – so in this new dark, of this new year, may we look to the cycles that we want to close and put them on the front burner to see to completion. May we determine to see their closing by this year’s end.

In conscious completion there comes conscious release.

This nine is the year to handle what needs handling, understanding that if we do not, we carry this pattern or issue into the upcoming cycle of nine. In layman’s terms, that’s the next nine years. So there is a beauty to being conscious of the collective number and where we are in the cycle. It is with new, or at the very least, aware eyes that we look to what we’ve created and assess. Are we headed in the direction that we want to travel? Are we traveling lightly? Is what we carry serving our highest good? Are we ready to release it if it doesn’t? How are we releasing it?

The cyclical nature of being allows us to step into an awareness bigger than our daily lens in vigilant observation of our own selves. Here we study our movements from a higher perspective, track ourselves with an objective eye and allow this to nudge us into mindful carrying on in a soul-conscious direction.

It is up to us to identify and then travel the roads to who we want to be. Mind you this is who we want to be, not where we want to go. It is my personal belief that life is the dance of becoming our most authentic selves. This is a development of our internal not our external environment. Although often we see it through both sides.

So set goals, and with the universe as your guide, track them. And in this culmination year of nine give yourself permission to look upon yourself gently as a parent might a child. With love and perhaps the indulgence of an amused heart. The juncture of self-love and soul-growth is the apex perspective for identifying what no longer serves you. If it doesn’t serve you, you might prepare to offer its release.

Remember there is always room to hold on, if releasing is not yet for you. And if you choose to hold on, you still look upon yourself kindly.

Soul-growth is nothing if not the cyclical series of choice.

The path from who we are to who we want to be opens right there in front of us. Still, we have to recognize that path in order to take it. In the end, it comes down to conscious decisions, day by day, minute by minute. But the choice to walk the path of conscious choosing remains your own.

Will you take it?
